This article is about the default submarines included in the game. For the mechanics of submarines themselves, see Submarine.

Barotrauma comes with a selection of default submarines that were created by Regalis. The following is a list of those submarines.

Submarines

Dugong

Compared to larger vessels, the Dugong series is overshadowed in all aspects except one: their reliability for their price is world class. They're lacking in firepower and speed, so smart maneuvering is key.

Dimensions: 42x10 m
Recommended crew size: 3-5
Compatible with content packages Vanilla 0.9

The Dugong was introduced in Vanilla 0.9.

Command

The Command Room is placed at left side of Dugong. With two periscopes, one that control the top left coilgun and the other controls the bottom coilgun. It contains a Navigation Terminal with buttons to shutdown the Nuclear Reactor, to toggle the power input to the Batteries and to activate the Discharge coil, one Status Monitor linked to the Navigation Terminal, the room also contains a Supply Cabinet, a button to activate the Discharge coil, one vent exit, two doors, one near the Navigation Terminal that connects the Command Room with the Engine Room, and one near the Super Capacitors which connects the Command Room with the "Diving suits hallway".

Reactor

The Reactor Room, found at the bottom left side of Dugong. It is connected with the Junction compartments, it contains one junction box that gives power to some items scattered around Dugong, it is also the main junction box, which means if it gets broken all electronics will get no energy, it also contains one Supply Cabinet, one vent exit and one Steel Cabinet with 3 Fuel rods, one Blue Wire, one Red Wire and two Screwdrivers.

Bottom Floor

The bottom floor of Dugong contains five rooms (Six if you consider part of the Engine Room), on the far left side its located one of the two ballasts, on the left side its located the reactor room, in the middle you can find the Junction Compartment, on the right its located the Oxygen Generator Room, on the far right side its located the second Ballast.

Middle Floor

The middle floor also contains five rooms. On the far left side the Engine Room its located, on the left side its where the Command Room its located, on the middle you can find the Diving Suits Room, on the right the Medbay can be found, and on the far right side the Armory its located.

Top Floor

The top floor contains the airlock, which its different from most submarines, as it doesn't contain diving suits, it only contains one Steel Cabinet, with two Handheld Sonars, three Flares, four Batteries, two Plasma Cutters, two Underwater Scooters and two Oxygen Tanks.

Humpback

A former military vessel, WH4-L3 'Humpback' has been outfitted to withstand most of the dangers in deep Europa. Her relatively high velocity is offset by low maneuverability. As she's still boasting an older model reactor, power needs to be supplemented by a backup battery array or the crew will find themselves unable to run all of the new equipment..

Kastrull

The Kastrull is a dependable attack sub class bringing plenty of firepower to any fight, and although it's not very nimble, it does sport a drone gunship as standard. Keep in mind that with its experimental open ballast tanks, low tolerance to flooding and numerous crew stations, a large, experienced crew will get the most out of this sub.

Typhon class subs are known for their brutish appearance, reasonable array of light and heavy firepower, and their general dependability. Any captain should be aware of their poor rate of descent and unimpressive top speed.

Shuttles

Shuttles are much smaller submarines used mostly as respawn vessels in multiplayer. They very often don't have their own nuclear reactor and their batteries are often fully charged and can store more kW power than the main submarine.

Respawn shuttles spawn only if a certain percentage of players has died. This can of course be changed to the server host's desire.

Upon spawning in the shuttle there will be fully stocked diving suits and underwater scooters, the number of spawned suits and scooters is according to the respawned player amount.

They can be used in case the shuttle is not able to dock safely to the main submarine.

Most shuttles have barely any hull, because of that they are easily sunk by most creatures, impact from rocks or other submarines. So knowing how to steer them is crucial.

BunyIp

The BunyIP its mainly used as a respawn shuttle. it contains three batteries that can run out of power quickly and three Diving Suits, its velocity its lower than most vanilla submarines, it is also dangerous when the crew its not trusted, as it can be easily flooded by opening the emergency hatch.

In 0.9.7 it will be replaced with a new shuttle.

Venture

The Venture its not so often used as a respawn shuttle, as it is really slow, although it contains a larger amount of power compared to BunyIp, it contains four Diving Suits, one Steel Cabinet with items for diving and two Supply Cabinets

Drones

Drones are usually really small submarines. Most have a coilgun, and the Navigation Terminal its always located on the main submarines, they are not made to transport humans or any cargo, most times their tasks its to explore ruins, find resources or even attacking creatures without causing damage to main sub. Only two of the six vanilla submarines have their own shuttle, the Remora and the Kastrull.

In Campaign, there is a way to recover a shuttle if it gets destroyed, in the Shop section you can choose to recover it for 1000 credits.
