Description

Jove is the final boss of Barotrauma that was introduced in 1.0.7.0. An ancient god-like creature found in the Eye of Europa, it is worshipped by Ancients. It has a shield that blocks projectiles and all damage, and pylons must be destroyed to disable the shield. Ancients refer to Jove as YOH-WEY.

In-Game

Combat Strategies

To damage Jove, you must destroy the three pylons located around the final location in order to get through its shield. Destroying each pylon will inflict Doom of Jove (10)* to Jove, reducing its health by 10%. Once two pylons are destroyed, Jove will begin emitting a 200m EMP blast every 60 seconds which can cause damage to electronic installations. Once the final pylon is destroyed, the shield protecting Jove will disappear making it vulnerable. Once vulnerable, Jove will begin to fire anomaly projectiles at the submarine. Damaging Jove at certain health ranges will cause various Guardians to spawn:

Health Enemy
51% - 68% Fractal Guardian (EMP)
41% - 60% Portal Guardian
0% - 50% Fractal Guardian (Ancient Weapon)
0% - 40% Fractal Guardian (Ancient Weapon)
0% - 30% Fractal Guardian (EMP)
0% - 20% Portal Guardian
0% - 10% Portal Guardian

Shield x 0 x 0 x 0 Removed once all Pylons are destroyed. Deflects projectiles. Once severed, it deals 1 Internal Damage in a range of 5m which causes the Ancients to flee.

Trivia

  • Jove is hinted at throughout the game in various subtle ways. The bot line "Why is it 'Jovian'? Why not 'Jupiterian'? What the hell is Jove?" is more direct than others, whilst the sounds Jove makes can be heard in some of the music tracks played throughout the game.
  • Despite only having one death sound file, it is titled "JOVE_dead1.ogg" which implies there were alternative sound files that could've played during Jove's death.
