The Hammerhead Matriarch is a Europan creature related to the Hammerhead.
Description
The Hammerhead Matriarch is a large, dark red squid-like creature with four arms attached to its torso. Despite the sharp appearance of these arms, the Hammerhead Matriarch is a docile creature. It avoids combat wherever possible, only responding aggressively when provoked. Its head is a large, fragile sac of eggs.
In-Game
The Hammerhead Matriarch is not aggressive until provoked. Upon being attacked however, it will retaliate with its only form of attack; a suicidal, devastating assault on the Submarine's hull. The impact makes its egg sac burst, releasing 30 Hammerhead Spawn. The attack allows the Hammerhead Spawns entry into the sub, utilising swarm tactics to overwhelm Humans inside the submarine.
Combat Strategies
Due to the docile nature of the Hammerhead Matriarch, it is entirely viable to completely avoid it. Typically, it only becomes hostile due to misfires by a gunner, or if the player intentionally shoots it. If intentional combat is the preferred strategy, the Railgun will immediately kill it. It is not advised to use the Coilgun as it will only anger it, being unable to kill it quick enough. The Pulse Laser using Tri-Pulse Ammunition can also quickly kill it, however only in closer ranges as all three shots would land.
The Hammerhead Matriarch cannot damage creatures and humans directly. Because of this, it will avoid any other species or humans outside of the submarine and try to swim away even when under their attack. It is not advised to attempt to combat the Hammerhead Matriarch with melee weapons, as it is much faster than a regular human. Keep in mind that it will prioritize attacking submarine's hulls over escaping.
A pack of Hammerhead Spawn will be released on any death of the Hammerhead Matriarch - suicide attack is not required for that. They may cause problems to whoever being too close.
