Salt Vine Seed is a Gardening item.
Description
Salt Vine Seeds are small lime color seeds that can be stored in Seed Bags. They are used to grow Raptor Bane Vines, a plant which is the only source of Salt Bulbs that can be deconstructed into Sodium, a relatively high demand resource whose only other sources are Mining Outposts, and some Minerals, and which is mainly used to craft UEX, a basic explosive material for crafting explosive Ammunition and other Explosives. For this reason it is generally the most useful plant to grow, especially when using Submarine Weapons like the Coilgun or Flak Cannon, or when loading Railgun Shells with explosives, albeit it isn't without drawbacks, as Salt Bulbs explode shortly after coming in contact with water, making them very dangerous during floods.
They can be bought on some Outposts, or obtained from deconstructing Salt Bulbs. They are also sometimes found in Wrecks.
Method
One has to be careful when growing, or even running past this plant, as Salt Bulbs explode shortly after coming in contact with water, inflicting Burns and a very long Stun to anyone within 0.5 meters. For this reason it is advisable to plant it in a room that is the least likely to be flooded, or at least is infrequently visited. Notably, water from the Watering Can, does not trigger the explosion. Collected Salt Bulbs should be stored in watertight Containers to keep them safe.
To start a garden, first place a Small Planter Box inside the submarine. Then, use the Salt Vine Seed on the Planter Box to plant it. The bud consumes water over time and grows vines on the wall. A Watering Can is used to refill the Planter Box with fresh water. When fully grown, the plant drops fruits from flowers on the vines. If the water in the Planter Box runs out, the plant will die. Dead plants can be uprooted by hand, allowing the Planter Box to be repotted or removed entirely. Planter Boxes in contact with seawater will be drained of their fresh water supply. Fertilizer can be used on the Planter Box to double the growth speed and fruit production rate of the plant inside it for 16 minutes and 40 seconds.
