The Ancient Weapon is a powerful weapon of alien design that can be very rarely found within the Alien Ruins. It takes up both hands when equipped. It is the best handheld weapon in Barotrauma in terms of sheer damage output and destructive capability.
Function
When activated, the weapon will fire a long range beam. The beam itself does low damage, but the fact that it is constantly applying said damage makes it rapidly build up to massive damage in seconds, decimating humans, creatures and submarine hulls alike. This makes it a far superior weapon to the commonplace Harpoon Gun, but due to its rarity not many even know that the weapon exists.
It can also be used as ammunition for the Railgun, although due to the extreme rarity of the weapon this is unadvisable unless you're facing an enemy submarine.

Trivia
- Internally, the Ancient Weapon is not a weapon at all, but rather a Tool that does damage to structures instead of repairing them as a Welding Tool would. Due to this, it is essentially an upgraded version of the Plasma Cutter.
- However, unlike the Plasma Cutter it cannot be used to unseal doors.
