Flares are a single-use item that can be lit, carried, and/or thrown to create a temporary source of light. They can be used in low-light situations such as [[Nuclear Reactor|reactor]] power-up, power failure, cave diving, and [[Alien Ruins|Alien Ruin]] exploration.

A lit alien flare will burn for 800 seconds, or 13 minutes and 20 seconds. Lit flares flicker throughout their burn time.
As of version 0.20.16.1, alien flares cannot be activated under normal circumstances.


Flares will continue to burn outside of the submarine at no duration or brightness penalty.
Active alien flares radiate a blue, flickering light in a 10.0m radius for 800s (13min 20s). Like {{Hpyerlink|Flare|25|s=s}}, and unlike {{Hyperlink|Glowstick|25|s=s}}, they will sink in the water once dropped or thrown.


Unlike regular flares which glow red, alien flares glow blue and with a greater light range.
Alien flares, like normal flares and glowsticks, will attract the attention of many [[creatures]], potentially providing a useful distraction.
