The Flare is a consumable, throwable item in Barotrauma.
Usage
Flares are a single-use item that can be lit, carried, and/or thrown to create a temporary source of light. They can be used in low-light situations such as reactor power-up, power failure, cave diving, and Alien Ruin exploration.
A lit flare will burn for 400 seconds, or six minutes and forty seconds. Lit flares flicker throughout their burn time.
Flares will continue to burn outside of the submarine at no duration or brightness penalty.
Trivia
- As of Version 0.9.0.6, flares can be deconstructed and re-constructed at will without requiring additional components, making them completely renewable. This will likely change in a future update.
- A currently non-functional Alien Flare exists and can be spawned using the Submarine Editor and Console, but cannot be lit. The items.xml document in the game's files suggests that the Alien Flare will burn for twice as long and 60% brighter than its normal counterpart.
