The Prototype Steam Cannon is a Handheld Ranged Weapon in Barotrauma.

Description

The Prototype Steam Cannon is a two-handed medium-range small-size weapon. It's a unique variant of the Flamer, and an upgrade in comparison, as it can be used both underwater and in dry conditions. Additionaly, it will not cause fires to start and doesn't consume oxygen from the rooms it's used in. It spews a constant stream of steam, fed by Welding Fuel. It's one of the best weapons to have while exploring Alien Ruins because it makes dealing with Swarm Feeders extremely easy and quick.

It has a 5% chance to spawn in Secure Steel Cabinets in a Wreck.

Function

The Prototype Steam Cannon is held with both hands and must be loaded with Welding Fuel Tank or Incendium Fuel Tank to be used. As with all weapons and tools, using it is done by holding the Right Mouse Right-click to take aim, then by Left Mouse Left-clicking to shoot/use. Holding down Left Mouse lets the user fire continuously until fuel runs out. The projectile sprites do not represent the weapon's hitbox, damage is dealt in a hitscan cone that does not bounce off walls.

  • It has a single slot for ammunition which can contain a single Welding Fuel Tank.
    • Using the Prototype Steam Cannon while there is an Oxygen Tank or Oxygenite Tank in the slot will cause an explosion after a 1-second delay.
  • Using the Prototype Steam Cannon without the required skill level may inflict Burns to the user.
  • Unlike most weapons, the Prototype Steam Cannon does not cause any Stun nor does it have any stopping power. While it deals a notable amount of damage in a short time, it does nothing to prevent Creatures from getting close enough to attack the user.
  • The Prototype Steam Cannon can be used quite effectively to deal with Ballast Flora.
  • The stream of steam ricochetes from walls.
  • Unlike most two-handed weapons, it doesn't have a Flashlight slot.
