Afflictions are status effects that characters can receive through varied means and that can have positive or negative effects. They are the only way of influencing a character's Vitality.

Mechanics

Health GUI

Afflictions are displayed as icons above the health bar, and detailed information can be seen through the health GUI, which is accessed with the "Health" key (Default: H), or clicking on the character portrait, health bar or afflictions.
The health UI shows:

  • A list of afflictions affecting selected limbs, displayed with a gauge under their icon, which represents the strength of the affliction.
    • Limbs can be selected by clicking on themm.
    • Some afflictions affect the whole body and are are typically displayed on the torso or head.
    • Some afflictions do not display an icon at certain strangth levels.
    • Hovering over an affliction in this list will display its description, along with the total amount of Vitality it has subtracted.
  • A list of suitable treatments for current afflictions, from most vitality healed to least vitality healed.
    • As of v0.15.9.0 (Among the Ancients), the suitable treatments list is no longer made inaccurate by low medical skill.
    • Medical items can be used from the player's inventory by clicking on a suitable treatment from the list.

Strength

Most afflictions range from 0 to 100 strength.
Certain afflictions can lose or gain strength passively over time, such as poisons, blood loss and buffs.

The effects of some afflictions can be scaled to characters' or creatures' maximum Vitality.
As such, the effects and strength ranges of those effects will be multiplied by the character's or creature's maximum vitality.

Some examples of vitality scaling are as such:

  • Internal Damage has an effect with a maximum vitality decrease of 2. Due to the effect being set to scale to maximum vitality, the max vitality decrease will be set to 200 for characters with 100 max vitality, and 220 for characters with 110 max vitality.
