Caution should be exercised when using this item, since Drunkenness can cause high Vitality loss. Note that Drunkenness can only decrease Vitality by a maximum of -100, so drinking Rum can never kill if the character is conscious, but can cause unconsciousness, and possible death by Oxygen Low.

While most of the effects of Rum are identical between drinking it manually and using the Health GUI, there is a discrepancy when it comes to how it reduces Husk Infection. When using the GUI, it simply reduces the infection by -1 per second for 30 seconds, leading to a total reduction of 30, (however since the infection advances at a rate of 0.3 per second naturally, this total is -21). However, when drinking by holding right click, Husk Infection is reduced while the bottle is being drunk, instead of when the bottle is finished. This rate is -3 per second, and so the theoretical total is also -30, but the true total is -27, because of the natural progression of the infection. Note that drinking Rum with right click does not reduce Husk Infection at strengths above 50, but applying it via the Health GUI does.

Additionally, since applying Rum via the Health GUI does not take into consideration what the condition of the item is, it is actually possible to drink 99% of the bottle by holding right click, then using it in the health GUI. This reduces Husk Infection by roughly -48, as long as the infection was initially below 50.
The disinfectant effects are not affected by partially drinking the bottle. A Rum that has been drank down to 5% condition will treat the same amount of Infection as a fully bottle.

It is possible to reduce Husk more efficiently by drinking Rum for a few seconds any time the character is hit by a Husk. This will stop the infection from advancing, and can be used several times per bottle.
Upon finishing the bottle, Rum reduces the infection by -1 per second for 30 seconds, leading to a total reduction of 30, however since the infection advances at a rate of 0.3 per second naturally, the effective total is -21.

Rum is a strong alcoholic drink available to Captains with the Drunken Sailor Talent.

Function

A stronger drink compared to Ethanol, Rum applies high levels of Drunkenness, and can greatly reduce Psychosis and Hallucinating. Alternatively, it may be applied directly to limbs to treat Infected Wounds.

Caution should be exercised when using this item, since Drunkenness can cause high Vitality loss. Note that Drunkenness can only decrease Vitality by a maximum of -100, so drinking Rum can never kill outright if the character is conscious, but can cause unconsciousness, and possible death by Oxygen Low.

This applies less so to Captains with the Drunken Sailor Talent, since this talent removes the vitality, movement speed, and nausea effects of drunkenness.

As a disinfectant, it treats a small amount, and is most suitable for preventing mild infections from getting worse. The Burn damage is negligible, and will be fully healed in 20 seconds.

Usage

Rum can be drank by equipping the item, then holding right click Right Mouse. The item will lose condition at a rate of 10% per second, and will be removed when it reaches 0%. Rum is a one-handed item, so it is possible to drink two at the same time.

Like all Medical Items, Rum can be applied through the Health GUI (Default KeyH), which applies its disinfectant effect. See this page for more information on medical item usage.

Rum cannot be loaded into a Syringe Gun.

Rum is not used in any crafting recipes.

Notes

When drinking Rum by holding right click, it will apply all of its effects only when it has been completely consumed. Drinking half the bottle will not give half the Drunkenness.

The disinfectant effects are not affected by partially drinking the bottle. A Rum that has been drank down to 5% condition will treat the same amount of Infection as a fully bottle.

Upon finishing the bottle, Rum reduces the infection by -1 per second for 30 seconds, leading to a total reduction of 30, however since the infection advances at a rate of 0.3 per second naturally, the effective total is -21.
