The Giant Spineling is a stronger variant of the Spineling.
Description
The Giant Spineling is significantly larger than the Spineling. Despite its size, however, it remains just as nimble as its smaller counterpart. The Giant Spineling is covered in a green moss-like substance and has drastically less spikes around its body. Its tail-end is shaped like a flipper, which perhaps is the source of its speed relative to its size, as such a flipper is absent on regular Spinelings.
In-Game
Giant Spinelings only spawn within a swarm of Spineling. They typically come in packs of 2, however in higher difficulty areas up to 3 can spawn at a time. They swim around the submarine, firing giant spikes at it which cause severe hull damage. Its speed is balanced by its large size, which allows most gunners to land shots on it with ease.
Combat Strategies
The quick movements of the Giant Spineling make weapons such as the Chaingun inferior in combat. It is advisable to use the Railgun or Pulse Laser instead due to their high damage outputs and accuracy. The Coilgun is viable, but not as effective. If killed quickly, it is possible to avoid taking major hull damage. This requires good coordination between the captain and the security team.
It is absolutely not recommended to attempt to kill the Giant Spineling with small arms or melee weapons due to their lower damage outputs compared to submarine weaponry.
