The Mudraptor Hatchling is a baby variant of the Mudraptor.
Description
The Mudraptor Hatchling is significantly smaller than the Mudraptor. Its skin is underdeveloped, still being covered in blood and the gooey insides of the egg. Their beaks haven't developed at all, their claws are softer than the typical Mudraptor, and they lack the armor that develops with age. Despite their stature, they are still a threat to those around them, especially if their prey underestimates its ability.
Mudraptor Hatchlings are self-sufficient from birth and will naturally start hunting alone.
In-game
Mudraptor Hatchlings can only spawn from Mudraptor Eggs. These can be found in infested Abandoned Outposts or in a Mudraptor Nest.
Due to their smaller size, Mudraptor Hatchlings are larger threats than regular Mudraptors when considering swarming tactics. Their natural environment consists of tight spaces and low visibility, which allows them to sneak up on unsuspecting players who are caught off-guard by the hatching process. It is also important to note that wherever a Mudraptor Hatchling swims, a Mudraptor is sure to be close by.
Once birthed, Mudraptor Hatchlings tend to target the nearest Human directly, moving quickly and providing little time for them to react.
Combat strategies
Mudraptor Hatchlings pose a significantly reduced threat compared to regular Mudraptors, however caution is still advised. Melee weapons such as the Crowbar or Boarding Axe can make swift work of a Mudraptor Hatchling if is unrealistic to maintain a safe distance. If ranged weaponry is preferred, the Revolver or SMG are optimal alternatives due to their high damage and accuracy, combined with relatively cheaper ammo.
As Mudraptors tend to defend areas where Mudraptor Hatchlings live, the Shotgun is highly recommended. It is not necessarily recommended for killing Mudraptor Hatchlings, as a single shotgun blast can kill them, but more so to protect oneself from the potential Mudraptor threat.
A Submarine's weaponry would be considered excessive if used against a Mudraptor Hatchling.
