The Docking Port and Docking Hatch are an Installation used to dock two Submarines together. The Docking Hatch connects to another Docking Hatch vertically, and the Docking Port connects to another Docking Port horizontally.

Description

The Docking Hatch and Docking Port create a secure airlock between two entities that players can pass between. They can connect the Submarine to other entities like Outposts and Shuttles. Both entities must have a Docking Hatch or a Docking Port for a connection to be made. When the connection is not active, water can freely flow through, so it's imperative that a Hatch is also a part of the setup and configured to close when the Docking Hatch is not connected to another ship or structure. There is a prefab in the Submarine Editor to handle the wiring for this.

The Docking Hatch and Docking Port also include a Power connector which acts similarly to a Junction Box power connection in that it relays power between the two connected entities. You should make sure your Docking Hatch's power is connected to your grid so it can benefit from the free power provided by Outposts, that seem to regulate power consumption perfectly allowing you to take all the juice for charging batteries and running fabricators without worrying about overloads and your Reactor can be shutdown to save fuel.

Function

When 2 Docking Ports or Docking Hatches are docked to each other, air, water, items, power, and creatures can move between subs through them.

A Docking Hatch is required to dock with an Outpost as they do not have a Docking Port.

Usage

When docked, the ports will:

  • transfer power between each other.
  • create a dynamic hull between the two installations. This hull protects the area from the sea.
  • emit a "1" signal to any wire connected to the "STATE_OUT" pin
