The [[Afflictions|Affliction]] itself has two distinct stages of intensity, applying multiple other afflictions such as {{Hyperlink|Psychosis|20|Affliction Psychosis}} and {{Hyperlink|Nausea|20|Affliction Nausea}}, along with minor {{Hyperlink|Organ Damage|20|Affliction Organ Damage}} in the more severe state. The two stages will be referred to as "Indirect" and "Direct". The "Indirect" stage normally occurs when the watcher is outside the submarine with the player being inside, this stage applies minor Nausea and Psychosis, along with small screen distortions. The "Direct" stage is much more extreme, involving heavy Nausea and Psychosis, inflicting Organ Damage, and causing extreme screen distortion, making it almost impossible to see clearly. It should be noted that this affliction's stage system is completely range based, so it's entirely possible to get the extreme "Direct" stage while still inside the submarine if you are unfortunate enough to be very close to the area the Watcher is observing. Try not to lose your mind.
