A Submarine's Crush Depth is the limit to which a submarine can descend before it is damaged by the extreme pressure of Europa's ocean.

The depth is determined by the number of hull upgrades that have been purchased.

If a submarine ventures below its crush depth, its walls begin to damage progressively and will eventually break too fast to be repaired.

The rate of hull damage is proportional to how far below crush depth the submarine is; being below the crush depth by a few meters will not do appreciable damage, but the further down, the higher the damage.

The default crush depth value is 3500 meters. Hull upgrades give an additive bonus of 14% extra crush depth per upgrade level.

Therefore, the equation for a submarine's crush depth is 3500 * (1 + 0.14 * Upgrade Level).

Below is a table listing the crush depths for submarines based on the number of hull upgrades they have.

Upgrade Level Required Tier Crush Depth
Baseline 3500 m
Level 1 Tier 1 3990 m
Level 2 Tier 1 4480 m
Level 3 Tier 2 4970 m
Level 4 Tier 2 5460 m
Level 5 Tier 3 5950 m
Level 6 Tier 3 6440 m

Higher level upgrades can be achieved on low tier subs by making use of the Retrofit and Iron Storm mechanic talents.

These numbers may be slightly off from their real in-game values due to floating point rounding errors.

Humans

The maximum allowed depths for humans with different gear and afflictions are listed below. The highest depth value takes priority.

If humans descend below these depths without the proper gear, they will implode and die after a short delay.
