“ | Successor to the classic Orca series, this submarine boasts the same three-ballast setup which allows it to ascend and descend with only a moments notice. Well armed and equipped for a scout vessel, Orca2 is capable of taking on all but the most dangerous denizens of europa. | „ |
–In-game description |
The The Orca 2 is a scout class submarine.
Notable Features
The Orca 2 is very maneuverable and also boasts triple ballast tanks with large pumps. Comes with only one well placed ventral coilgun, but as a standard with a well placed chaingun too. The Orca 2 has slightly smaller ballast tanks, but it is still almost as agile as the original version of the sub. While the total retrofitting project of creating the Orca 2 has not necessarily created a direct upgrade, the Orca 2 certainly has a different design space than the original Orca. Turrets are well placed, It has more automated systems, and handy lights and alarms for batteries, airlock, fire, flood and reactor meltdown. It also comes with a water quantity detector system placed in each ballast tank, with automated lights handily placed on the level above. The system shows the current water levels of each tank in an analogue manner, so the crew can get an immediate at-a-glance idea of whether the orca is moving up or down. The Orca 2 has lost 4 Crates of Cargo Capacity, but has gained 4 additional suit lockers, making it easier to venture out from either top or bottom airlock.
Layout
The outer hull is the same as the orca. The interior is changed and moved around though. A little room in the ballast section has been reclaimed as storage, making the three ballasts a little smaller, reducing descent speed a little. Facilities are mostly the same although a few ladders are placed differently. While aft main ladder ends in the bottom airlock access instead of in a ballast, all of the mid- and fore ladders are cut off. This means the Orca 1 had 3 passages between the two main levels, and the Orca 2 has 1 ladder between the two main levels, arguably making it harder to move around in. The two default turrets cover most of the ship except the front top of the sub, where the sub has a hardpoint.
Trivia
- The Orca 2 is a retrofitted version of the Orca
- The Orca 2 is named after the killer whale of the same name, and in this retrofitted version it also received the black and white colors of its namesake.
