List of Config Files

Configuration Files are documents in which Barotrauma stores the game's settings, such as character customization and server settings.
Listed below are the file paths, and a short description of the config files' usages.

User Config

• ..\Barotrauma\config.xml
  • Used for resetting settings back to their defaults in the settings menu.
• ..\Barotrauma\config_player.xml
  • Contains the set language, volume, graphics and keybindings. Most of these values can be changed from the in-game settings menu.
• ..\Barotrauma\Data\forbiddenwordlist.txt
  • A list of blocked words/phrases used to hide servers in the server browser.

Server Config

• ..\Barotrauma\serversettings.xml
  • Contains the server configs, such as the name, password, description and game mode. Most of these values can be changed from the in-game server settings menu.
• ..\Barotrauma\Data\bannedplayers.txt
  • A list of the players who have been banned from the server.
• ..\Barotrauma\Data\clientpermissions.xml
  • A list of players and the admin and console permissions they have been given.
• ..\Barotrauma\Data\karmasettings.xml
  • Contains the server's current karma settings and a list of karma presets (Default & Strict).
• ..\Barotrauma\Data\permissionpresets.xml
  • Contains the list of default permission presets (None, Moderator & Admin) and the admin and console permissions they give when applied to a player.
