The nuclear reactor is possibly the most crucial machine on the submarine. It provides power to all the other devices and machines, including engines, lights, oxygen generators and water pumps. When the reactor is selected, a control panel opens up. The control panel shows three graphs: temperature, fission rate and cooling rate. The amount of electricity the reactor generates is directly proportional to the temperature. The cooling and fission rates must be adjusted to keep the temperature at a desired level - which is usually the same as the amount of power consumed by the electrical grid of the submarine.

Turning "autotemp" on will cause the reactor to automatically adjust the fission and cooling rates to keep the power at the same level as the power consumption.

It's also possible to set a maximum temperature; if the temperature raises higher than this, the reactor is automatically shut down.

Generating more electricity than the grid is consuming causes the voltage of the grid to raise which eventually leads to electrical devices breaking.

If the temperature of the reactor raises near 10 000 degrees centigrade, it will melt down, causing an explosion that can break nearby walls and kill any personnel who are close by.
