The Pulse Laser is a Submarine Weapon in Barotrauma. Similar to other Submarine Weapons, it requires a loader to be linked to it for ammo. It is the only Turret to fire a raycast attack, instead of a projectile attack.

Function and usage

Pulse Lasers shoot lasers that deal burn damage to anything they hit, as well as some explosive and burn damage to enemies directly nearby.

  • Has a 1-second charge before firing.

Pulse laser is especially good for use with bots, as they possess perfect aim and will always hit the target with single laser (Tri-Laser is useless on them, however, as they never consider extra beams when firing).

Like other Turrets, Periscopes are typically used to aim and fire Pulse Lasers. Firing Pulse Lasers draws power from their connected Supercapacitors, as well as ammunition from their linked Loaders.

Meta

Despite their low rate of fire and a charge-up time, Pulse Lasers deal really high DPS.

Versus unarmored targets, standard laser ammunition deals almost 3 times higher DPS than standard Coilgun and almost 2 times higher than standard Chaingun ammunition, thus being the most cost-efficient high-damage option.

Versus armored targets standard laser ammunition is on par with other ammunition types, while Tri-Laser ammunition deals significantly more damage than any other Pulse Laser, Coilgun or Chaingun ammunition type (provided that at all beams hit the target).

Pulse Lasers have thus become the current light submarine weapon meta, limited mainly by Lithium availability and high power draw.

Ammunition

There are 2 types of Pulse Laser ammunition:
Standard: good for killing single small and medium creatures.
Tri-Laser: good against spread-out crowds of creatures as well as dealing close-range high damage on a single larger creature (such as Endworm) ammunition.
