Orders are instructions used to direct the AI-controlled crew. While the crew will take initiatives on their own, orders help them react in more intelligent ways.

Usage

  • The Orders radial menu is opened with the Middle Mouse Button (or Mouse 3) by default.
When using the Orders key on a crew member directly, or on their name top-left of the screen, any selected order will be given to them.
If the menu is opened by clicking anywhere else, a list of the crew may be displayed by right-clicking an order; left-clicking on a crew member will issue the order to them. When left-clicking an order directly, the first relevant crew member will be automatically selected.
Holding the Shift key and then using the orders key on certain installations, the radial menu will only display orders relevant to that specific installation; for instance, doing so on a weapon's periscope will display the Operate Weapon order.
Crew members can be dismissed from an order by right-clicking the order, next to their name in the top-left crew display.

  • If an order requires using a specific item, such as a screwdriver to repair a junction box or a Diving Suit to fix leaks in a flooded room, they will first try to find it within the submarine's containers or laying on the floor. If no required items are found or if they are in another crew member's inventory, they won't take it from them and will be unable to complete their order, stating so in the chat.
  • Issuing an order can be done preemptively: for instance, if ordering a crewmember to Fight Intruders when none are in the submarine, they will answer that they can't find any, but will remain assigned to this task and when intruders arrive they will fight them.
  • Up to 3 orders can be saved for quick re-assignment; when giving a new order to a crew member, their previous order will be moved to the right and its icon made smaller; left-clicking one of the previously dismissed orders will issue it again, letting one quickly cycle between orders depending on the situation. Preparing these quickly accessible orders at the beginning of a round may save a lot of time afterwards.

Emergency

Extinguish Fires

Find and pick up the nearest Fire Extinguisher, then rush to the nearest fire and try to extinguish the flames.
If there are any fires when opening any crew member's Orders radial menu, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom.

Fight Intruders

Seek and fight any intruders that made their way inside the submarine.
If there are any intruders when opening any crew member's Orders radial menu, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom.

Heal and Rescue

Provide medical assistance to any crew member that needs it. The AI seems to ignore light injuries such as minor Internal Damage.
If the crew member is a Medical Doctor, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom of their Orders radial menu.

Movement

Follow

Follow the order-giving character until dismissed. Useful to bring a crew member to a given area, or to help defend the player while they focus on other tasks, such as repairs while intruders are on board or while carrying an Alien Artifact. Especially useful in the solo campaign mode when venturing outside the submarine to explore ruins for instance, for defense and the added inventory space.

Wait

Orders the target to stay at their current position until dismissed. Useful to prevent them from wandering around when idle if they need to quickly be available in a specific room.
To avoid having to first bring the crew member to the desired location, this order can be given using the contextual commands, by holding Shift, using the Orders key at the desired location, then right-clicking the Wait order, then left-clicking the crew member.

Maintenance

Fix Leaks

Fix the nearest hull breaches using a Welding Tool loaded with a Welding Fuel Tank.
If there are any leaks when opening any crew member's Orders radial menu, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom.

Cleanup Items

Find any items laying on the floor and store them in their appropriate container if there is room, most frequently Diving Suits, Fire Extinguishers or empty Oxygen Tanks.

Repair Damaged Systems

Repair damaged systems, whether they are electrical or mechanical. A Screwdriver is needed for the former, and a Wrench for the latter.

Repair Mechanical Systems

Repair damaged mechanical systems using a Wrench.
If the crew member is a Mechanic, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom of their Orders radial menu.

Repair Electrical Systems

Repair damaged electrical systems using a Screwdriver.
If the crew member is an Engineer, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom of their Orders radial menu.

Operate

Operate Reactor

  • Power up
Power up and operate the Nuclear Reactor. While this order is active, the crew member will replace any exhausted Fuel Rods if more are available in the submarine, and drop the exhausted rod on the floor. The AI will always place rods one by one, and will remove any additional rods that were placed in the reactor by a player. When dismissed or given another order, the AI will switch the reactor to Automatic mode.
If the crew member is an Engineer, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom of their Orders radial menu. If the reactor is off, it will be there for all crew members.
  • Shutdown
Shutdown the reactor. Useful to reduce the noise emitted and attract less attention from Creatures with high Hearing; auxiliary power (Batteries) may be used to power the submarine's systems by clicking the Backup power array button in the Navigation Terminal.

Operate Weapons

Clicking on Operate Weapons brings up the submarine's layout and the weapons locations. Clicking on one of these weapons will order the targeted crew member to operate it. When the weapon is out of ammo, they will seek any available in the submarine and reload it.
If the crew member is a Security Officer, this order will be directly accessible in the quick access section at the bottom of their Orders radial menu.

Steer

If the crew member is a Captain, this order will be quickly accessible in the contextual section at the bottom of their Orders radial menu.
If the submarine has a Shuttle Navigation Terminal on board, clicking on Steer will first bring up the submarine layout, and display both the submarine's Navigation Terminal and that of the shuttle, both with the following 3 orders.

  • Navigate back
Travel back to the last Outpost or location visited.
  • Navigate to destination
Travel to the current mission objective, or the destination Outpost/location if the mission has already been completed or no mission was selected. Considering the AI will "see" obstacles as if the sonar was active even when it's passive, this is useful to reduce the noise emitted whithout having to slowly steer along cave walls. Their Helm skill will still impact the delay between the input and the effective pump and engines ajustmentsconfirmation needed.
  • Maintain position
Maintain the current position using the autopilot.

Other

Dismiss

Dismiss a crew member from their current assignment. This order can be given through the Orders radial menu only when using the contextual commands, by holding Shift and using the Orders key anywhere while at least one crew member has an assignment. Right-clicking their assignment at the top-left corner of the screen is faster and more practical.
