Mission Mode is one of the game modes in Barotrauma. It is the only mode available in singleplayer, and one of two playable modes in multiplayer.
Clr
There are a number of playable PAGENAME in Singleplayer Campaign, Multiplayer Campaign Mode and Mission Mode. In both types of Campaign, aside from Search and Destroy, which is a Multiplayer Mission Mode exclusive Mission, all Missions can be unlocked and played. In addition, completing Missions also increases RP in certain Factions depending on the Mission and RP in an Outpost from which the player receives their Missions.

Certain Missions have special conditions, such as some Cargo Missions don't require the player to deliver all supplies to succeed, which apply to both Mission Mode and Campaign. Most Missions reward positive RP in an Outpost and Factions, except for Praise the Honkmother where upon completion, the player receives both negative and positive RP in their respective Factions.

There are four types of Missions: Salvage, Monster, Cargo, and Combat.

Gameplay
Salvage Missions
In this mode, the crew must work together to complete a task, which can range from killing a deadly creature to finding a long lost artifact and reaching a destination marked as "End" on the map.

Missions
Salvage Missions are relatively well-paid, tasking the player with finding and retrieving a specific item under the ocean, which is always marked on the Sonar. These Missions are only considered successful when the required item is inside the hull of the Submarine and the crew manages to reach a Location safely.

There are two Salvage Missions:

Salvaging An Artifact
The player is required to retrieve one of the five Alien Artifacts: Faraday Alien Artifact, Nasonov Alien Artifact, Psychosis Alien Artifact, Sky Alien Artifact, and Thermal Alien Artifact from an alien ruin or cave system and bring it back or to the next destination.

1,000 (Moloch)
This can notably cause hassle for players - both in the form of the Fractal Guardians that can occasionally be found guarding the ruins, and the dangerous Thermal and Sky Alien Artifacts themselves.

On top of that, the Artifact can uncommonly be a Moloch instead of an Artifact, which the player is then required to kill to get their reward. MAY NOT BE ACTIVE

In Campaign, this Mission can only be unlocked in Colony, Habitation Outpost, both of which are adjacent to Research Outpost, Natural Formation, or Breeding Grounds, and Research Outpost.

There are two variations of this Mission:

Salvaging an artifact
<blockquote>"[Current Outpost's name] just received a fragmented distress call from a vessel that was thought to have been lost along with some highly sensitive encrypted data. Retrieve the captain's logbook as a priority and return it."</blockquote>
The crew is tasked with locating the sunken Submarine and retrieving the captain's Logbook. There may be more than a single Logbook inside the wreck, but the location of the correct Logbook containing the encrypted transmission will be marked on the Sonar screen. Bringing the wrong Logbook containing normal Messages doesn't count towards the success of the Mission.

The crew will be required to enter and search the sunken Submarine for the Logbook, which will require a Diving Suit to prevent death from Barotrauma and a Crowbar or a Plasma Cutter to gain entry. The sunken Submarine will also contain other resources which can be salvaged and used by the crew. It is advised to bring a weapon when entering the sunken vessel as Husks and other Creatures can spawn.

However, on higher difficulty, it is more likely for the sunken Submarine to be infested by the Thalamus instead, an intelligent organism capable of exerting some degree of control over the systems of the submarine it's inhabiting. The Leucocytes are a common presence in this scenario. Certain precautions must be taken when approaching this type of wreck.

In Campaign, this Mission can be unlocked in non-Mining Outpost types not adjacent to Breeding Grounds.

The crew may be sent to one of the five possible sunken Submarines: Berilia, Dugong, Hemulen, Kastrull, and an unnamed wreck.

Monster Missions
Monster Missions are the more dangerous ones as they require the player to terminate certain Creatures of Europan ocean. but they pay well especially for taking down many dangerous and deadly Creatures. In Campaign, these Missions can be unlocked in every Outpost.

There are six available Monster Missions:

Killing A [Creature]
The player is sent to kill an aggressive Creature that has been terrorizing Submarines. After doing so, the player can either return to the Outpost they've just left or reach the end point of the destination to receive their reward. Aside from the inherent danger in fighting these Creatures, the Mission is rather straightforward.

There are three possible Creatures that need to be eliminated:

Cargo Missions
Cargo Missions are the easiest (and thus, least rewarding) Missions in the game. They task the player with delivering a number of items, stored in Cargo Crates, to the destination on the Map where the Mission is available to choose.

Most Cargo Missions require the full Cargo to be delivered intact in the original Crate.

During the course of the round, the Cargo may be taken out, moved or manipulated as long as the entirety of the Cargo is inside its original Crate by the time the Submarine reaches the destination.

It's also worth noting that Cargo that is not inside its Crate will not be removed by the end of the round.confirmation needed

There are seven Cargo Missions:

Explosive Cargo
Explosive Cargo is one of the Cargo Missions the crew may receive. The Cargo is mostly explosive items, so certain precautions should be taken.

There are two variations of this Mission:

The Mission is completed once the Submarine reaches the destination with the Cargo. The Mission is failed if the Submarine reaches the destination and any of the Cargo has been used and/or gone missing.

In Campaign, this Mission can be unlocked in Colony, Military Outpost, both of which are adjacent to an Outpost, and Habitation Outpost adjacent to Colony, Military Outpost, and Mining Outpost.

<code>id: cargovolatilecompoundn</code>
<blockquote>"A local arms dealer is offering 2,000 marks in exchange for delivering two crates of high explosives to a customer in [Mission Location's name]."</blockquote>

This Mission is identical to the Compound N variation, with the only difference being that one of the units of Compound N loaded inside a Detonator is replaced by Volatile Compound N, which will randomly explode after a certain time. In addition, it isn't required to deliver the full Cargo to finish this Mission.

This Mission can not be distinguished from its first variation upon receiving it. The recommended course of action is checking out the Cargo, and jettisoning the Volatile Compound N before it has a chance to blow up, and proceeding as normal.

The Mission is completed once the Submarine reaches the destination with the Cargo of at least 25 items. The Mission is failed if the Submarine reaches the destination and the Cargo has fewer than 25 items.

In Campaign, this Mission can be unlocked in Colony and Military Outpost, both of which are adjacent to an Outpost.

Last updated for version 0.10.5.1
Last mentioned in changelog 1.2.7.0
The current game version is 1.2.8.0

There are a number of playable Missions in Singleplayer Campaign, Multiplayer Campaign Mode and Mission Mode.

Salvage Missions

Salvage Missions are relatively well-paid, tasking the player with finding and retrieving a specific item under the ocean, which is always marked on the Sonar. These Missions are only considered successful when the required item is inside the hull of the Submarine and the crew manages to reach a Location safely.

There are two Salvage Missions:

Salvaging An Artifact

"Researchers of [Current Outpost's name] have picked up an infrasonic signal highly similar to those emitted by alien artifacts previously discovered on Europa. Investigate the signal and retrieve the potential artifact."

Cave

The required Artifact is located either on the surface layers or within the cracks of Europa's icy crust.

 • Nasonov Alien Artifact: id: salvagenasonovartifactcave
 • Psychosis Alien Artifact: id: salvagepsychosisartifactcave

"[Current Outpost's name] just received a fragmented distress call from a vessel that was thought to have been lost along with some highly sensitive encrypted data. Retrieve the captain's logbook as a priority and return it."

Salvaging A Derelict NOT ACTIVE

A small cargo submarine, carrying dangerous chemicals (presumably Velonaceps Calyx eggs) went missing two months ago. While initially assumed lost, the vehicle's emergency beacon was recently activated, and the player is sent to investigate. Upon arrival, it is revealed that the submarine has been infested with a parasite and turned into a Carrier, which must then be killed.

Beast From The Abyss NOT ACTIVE

An Endworm has appeared in the nearby waters, causing all submarine travel in the area to be cancelled. The player is asked to kill the destructive foe, and is promised a hefty reward of 10,000 credits for the deed. Aside from the inherent cataclysm that always results from facing an Endworm, the mission is rather straightforward.

The crew is tasked with delivering two crates of 30 explosive items to the end point of the map. One of the crates contains 10 units of Compound N, while the other contains 10 Detonators, each of which contains a unit of Compound N.

Volatile Compound N

"A local arms dealer is offering 2,000 marks in exchange for delivering two crates of high explosives to a customer in [Mission Location's name]."

Despite the apparent danger of Husk eggs, this Mission is not actually dangerous at all, as the only way to become infected by the Husk eggs is to voluntarily ingest them or to be injected by a rogue player, and still, Calyxanide can be fabricated from the Velonaceps Calyx Eggs to fight any infection.

The Mission is completed once the Submarine reaches the destination with the Cargo. The Mission is failed if the Submarine reaches the destination and any of the Cargo has been used and/or gone missing.

This Mission is extremely dangerous, as Nitroglycerin will explode if subjected to an impact strong enough. This may be caused by poor handling of the Crate, or by being pushed by large Creatures such as a Moloch.

The Mission is completed once the Submarine reaches the destination with the Cargo. The mission is failed if the Submarine reaches the destination and any of the Cargo has exploded and/or gone missing.
