The Harpoon Gun is a handheld weapon that can be acquired in Barotrauma.

Function

Harpoon guns act as short-to-medium-range weaponry by firing spears at a high velocity. The Harpoon gun is effective both on board of the submarine and underwater, and upon striking another crew member, creature or wall, the spear may become lodged in the target (does not apply to the Explosive Spear) and can usually be recovered and reused. This property (plus the small material cost of the Ammunition) makes the Harpoon Gun a very reliable weapon.

Fired spears deliver a moderate amount of Damage and Bleeding, and are pretty effective at stopping the smaller denizens of Europa, such as Crawlers and Mud Raptors.

It should be noted that Characters with inadequate Weapons skill (less than 30) will suffer from a greatly increased spread, greatly reducing the effective accuracy of the gun.

Usage

The harpoon gun requires both hands to be equipped and must be manually loaded with individual Spears before firing. By default, the right mouse button aims the harpoon gun toward the cursor. Left-clicking will then fire a spear in the corresponding direction.

Fired Spears may be picked up as any other item with Left Mouse Button by default, and reloaded into the Harpoon gun.

Trivia

• Pre-release videos for Barotrauma showed that spears were originally going to have a rope attached between them and the harpoon gun. This would allow the player to retract a spear back into the barrel of the gun after launching it.
• Very effecient weapon for traitor, because of being quiet and having good headshot damage, can easily and quietly kill unarmored target with two shots.
