Gear is any item that can be worn by a Human. They have various uses some providing protection, others skill bonuses or utility.
Resistances Mechanics
Head gear only protects the head; Innerwear protects everything except the head; Body Armors and Moloch Shell Fragments only protect the torso; Diving Suits protect all limbs.

When a human receives damage of a certain type, and if they have more than one resistance to it, these resistance values are multiplicative (they are applied successively). For example:

When shot with a Revolver in the torso, a human wearing a diving suit and a gunner's uniform will receive 8 Gunshot Wound:<br><abbr title="Base revolver round damage">30</abbr> * <abbr title="Innate human resistance">50%</abbr> * <abbr title="Diving suit resistance">20%</abbr> * <abbr title="Gunner's uniform resistance">30%</abbr> = <abbr title="Total affliction strength applied">8.4</abbr> (truncated)

Along with gear resistances, Humans also have innate resistances to damage depending on the limb. The torso, for example, has a 50% resistance to Gunshot Wounds, Blunt Force Trauma and Lacerations, and a 25% resistance to Bite Wounds and Bleeding.

Gear is any item that can be worn by a Human. They have various uses — some providing protection, others skill bonuses or utility.

Resistances Mechanics

Main article: Armor Mechanics

Along with gear resistances, Humans also have innate resistances to damage depending on the limb. The torso, for example, has a 50% resistance to Gunshot Wounds, Blunt Force Trauma and Lacerations, and a 25% resistance to Bite Wounds and Bleeding.

Resistances are applied successively, so when shot with a Revolver using Revolver Rounds in the torso, a human wearing a diving suit and a gunner's uniform will receive ~8.8 Gunshot Wound:
28dmg - 50% - 30% - 10% = 8.8

Outerwear

The Outerwear slot is for bulky items like diving gear and body armor.
They typically provide strong protection from harm.
