While their behaviour may vary depending on their species, creatures tend to be harmful to the crew and submarine and act as antagonists that can be randomly encountered in-game; they can also be part of a mission objective, as a target or guardian of a target.
When killed, creatures can be looted for various materials. Some examples are:
- Many creatures will yield Alien Blood which can be turned into Blood Packs
- Mudraptors will yield Hydroxyapatite and sometimes Mudraptor Shell or Mudraptor Egg
- Hammerheads can yield Swim Bladder which deconstructs to Stabilozine for making antidotes
- Husk has a husk sting in its inventory a weak melee weapon
