Artifacts are rare and powerful relic items. They are the targets of Salvage Missions. Each type of artifact has an effect on their environment and are sources of rare crafting materials.

Artifacts can be found in Alien Ruins, and rarely spawn on the Europan sea floor. They are about 0.75m x 0.75m large, and their visual appearance is randomly generated, looking like several overlapping dark grey rectangles with circular dents in them. On sonar, they appear as a large, bright, oval blip.

They are large items requiring two hands to hold, and can not be stored in containers.

Five unique types of artifacts have been recovered from Europa: Psychosis, Faraday, Skyholder, Nasonov and Thermal.

The Sky Alien Artifact drain their room of oxygen. It is recommended to use a Diving Mask or even a Diving Suit when moving them around, and to store them in unfrequented parts of the submarine.

When deconstructed, the output includes 1 Steel Bar and 3 Oxygenite Shards

Oxygenite Shards are used to craft Liquid Oxygenite, provide air to the room they're in, and are a powerful thrown explosive weapon.

The Thermal Alien Artifact constantly generate Fire. Caution is to be taken so that they don't set installations ablaze, and crew members interacting with it will need to be treated for burns.

The best way to make Thermal Alien Artifact harmless, is to let it remain in the airlock of the submarine under flood or any other submarines space that can remain under flood without making it difficult to steer the submarine.

Remember that for Artifact recovery missions, the Artifact must be in the ship's hull to count as recovered; wedging it in some exterior space will not count toward retrieval.

When deconstructed, the output includes 1 Steel Bar and 3 Incendium Bars. Incendium Bars can be used to craft Incendium Fuel Tanks and Incendium Grenades

When placed in a submarine, the Nasonov Alien Artifact attracts creatures towards it. This makes it one of the more dangerous Artifacts as it can cause swarms of creatures to attack the submarine simultaneously.

However, the sea creatures of Europa will always prioritize food over the artifact. Depending on which creatures show up first, certain creatures will attempt to eat smaller prey before focusing on the submarine. For example, Mantises will prey on Crawlers if they are nearby each other, Tiger Threshers on Mantises, etc.

Regardless, crew members must make haste with the submarine and avoid sea creatures as the latter make their way to the Artifact.

When deconstructed, the output includes 1 Steel Bar and 3 Physicorium Bars. Physicorium Bars are used to craft Physicorium Harpoons, Physicorium Ammunition Boxes, and File:Physicorium Railgun Shell.png Physicorium Railgun Shells

Trivia

  • The origin of these artifacts and their purpose is unknown.
  • They were left behind by extraterrestrials on Europa.
  • For lack of understanding, their effects are impossible to prevent and can only be worked around. It is unknown how much of it comes from their intended function, normal side-effect of their working, or degradation sustained due to a lack of upkeep.
